how do write this function as a single quantity?

1/5 log3 (x + 3)

^^^ the 3 is a base...log base 3

1/5 log[base3](x+3)

log[base3](x+3)^(1/5)

I think that's what you want. I just applied one of the log rules, where multiplying a constant to the log is the same as taking the log to that power.
