I have a problem with ICS in XP.

I have a host computer with 2 network cards, one that connects to a cable modem(the internet) and one that connects directly to another computer. I've tried to enable internet connection sharing on the computer that connects to the internet, and I failed.

The thing is that the network is working, as I can share files both ways. I can ping the client from the server computer, but I can't ping from the client to the server(but file transfer works both ways).

What's the problem?

I've tried disabling the firewall , but I just can't ping the server computer from the client computer.

What do you think?

Thanks.

If you are pinging a computer name, it's possible that the client is trying to ping the card to which it is not connected. Check the IP addresses on both cards in the server, and then go to the client and ping the proper IP address, not the server name.
You also might want to set up the client with some static IPs for the DNS, etc because if the DHCP is telling your client the IP address of the other card, it might not work properly.

You should also look at disabling the firewall service. If you are just using the windows firewall then disabling it from the GUI does not just work. Go to the services mmc.

Start>Run>services.msc and then scroll down to the Windows Firewall service and disable it.

When you say a server do you mean a windows server of just a windows XP or 2000 machine acting as a server?
