Well, if you had a chip set, or whatever they call those things, to hammer away at rock to make engravings, etc., that could be good, but you wouldn't want to break your Pet Rock in half.
Therefore, I would just make a copy of your house key, purchase some magnet tape and some Krazy Glue (since the magnet tape sticky side won't be sticky enough for your Pet Rock), and then put the glue on the magnet tape, glue it to the bottom of your rocking, assuming it has a flat side to it and big enough to accomodate your key, and then attach your new copied house key to the magnet tape. You might even want to paint your Pet Rock the color of wherever you decide to hide him/her once you get locked out of the house. Good luck!
