(2x^4 + x³ - 8x² + 6x - 3) + [-1(6x^4 - 8x² + 2x)]
= 2x^4 + x³ - 8x² + 6x - 3 - 6x^4 + 8x² - 2x
= -4x^4 + x³ + 4x - 3

The only trick here is that minus sign outside of the second bracket. All you have to do is distribute that, and then it's a matter of combining like terms.

2x^4 + x^3 - 8x^2 + 6x - 3 - 6x^4 + 8x^2 - 2x

-4x^4 + x^3 + 4x - 3
