i was wondering if you can do that, if all you have to pay is the retail price of the phone or if there was extra charges?

That depends on your plan, your service provider etc. Check with them to find out. Every service provider is different.

Each phone co differs in the cancellation fee. call up customer service and ask.

did you get a new phone when you renewed your plan? don't know about other carriers but with verizon you are eligible for a partial credit towards a new phone when you renew your contract, how much credit you get depends on when you first signed with them. for instance, i'll be getting 100 dollars credit towards my new phone when i get one later this week....YAAAAY

if its T-mobile then you have a 15 day full exchange warrenlty but if you are over 15 days then just sell your cellphone online and then add more money and buy a different cellphone.
