You must be American. In UK we just go see our Doctor with no need for insurance. Try a drug store.

No over the counter drugs that I am aware of. There should be a walk in medicare clinic. What I would do is first call any clinic or hospital and ask them these questions after explaining who you. It would start something like this-

Hello,my name is ___________. I have a few questions to ask if I may. You see, I am extremely depressed and need to be diagnosed to see if I qualify for medication. I don't have insurance and need to know if there is a place I can go to qualify for medicare/medicaid.

1)What is the place?
2) Where is the place?
3) Do they have a phone number?
4) Do they have walk-in hours?
5) Do you know of any places that will accept medicare/medicaid?

(if there is no place)
Do you have a payment plan option?
(if they don't)
Do you know a clinic or hospital that has a payment plan option?

Hopefully this will help you out. I went through the same thing for something way different and this is npretty much what I did.

Sweetie.... woman to woman and heart to heart. I don't care what the problem is or how you ended up depressed so much, but from someone who used to struggle with depression a whole lot.... I'ma be real honest with you. If you want a cure and not a temporary sedative then pray about it and let the Lord take care of it. I'm not a religious nut or a coocoo christian, but I turned to God and man the difference is like night and day. He took away all the hurt and put joy there and he will do the same for you. There are no tricks or over the counter medications that will make you feel better then you will feel if you turn to him. This is my opinion and I tell you this because I see my old self in you... there's a cure so why seek a temporary solution?

St John's Wort, daily exercise, improved diet are simple things you can do without much cost. You might research generic drug prices (WalMart has $4 generic in some states) and go talk to a doc about pros and cons are for your situation.
Also new relationships/friends can help lift your spirits. The thrill of the give and take of a relationship (if positive) can help your self esteem.
Sometimes just blowing off steam with someone can help. That could range from both of you screeming at a tree, or wild interpersonal contact.

To help babyj248: the name is St. John's Wort. It is over-the-counter, but may not be strong enough to help.

What may help is to go to the county health department, or even to contact the pharmacutical company. Sometimes, they help people who really cannot afford the prescription by providing it free or at a reduced price.

I do know from experience that depression isn't anything to ignore. Please find help! Many professionals will help those who cannot afford the visits.

They're prescription.
Depending on your income, you may be eligible for medical assistance. Check with your local SRS office and see.

Sorry you're down. You're a gorgeous woman and I hope all goes well for you.
E-mail if you like, I've been through times like that and had to do the same thing. (No insurance, needed medication.)

Never would know why someone would be lonely and depressed but they do and you would have to go to a clinic run by the city or county and you can get medication there. ALso can get check up and maybe they can refer you to a shrink that works for the county. But if you need a friend I iwll be your friend. Just Im or e-mail me and we can chat all you want to. Cool. SO good luck

Isn't there a clinic in your area for low-income people? Just a thought. I mean, if you are low-income. Theres also a vitamin suplement called St. Johns Wort that is supposed to be good for depression.

You might try a mental health facility that goes by income too, or try finding a friend whom you can confide in. Maybe someone whose been through what you've been through.

Amanda...depression is bad and some times the meds work and they don't. In todays world and around your local neighborhood bar and friends the odds that nobody has any depression medicine is 100 to 1 odds.

Just aks for a pill and try it and see if it works for you.
