ok everyone wants to be right on this. I say its your choice.
There is a small chance of allergic reaction. My daughter had
chocolate when she was 7 or 8 months old. Just do a small amount the first time and watch for allergic reactions, like loose
stools, hives, and such.
Please don't let the die hard no people scare you off its your baby and your choice.
Good Luck
Morgaine
just wanted to add caffienne was recomended for my friends daughter as a sleep aide. It affects infants differently.

If the child is eating solids, nothing wrong with a little bit of chocolate, like cake or ice cream. Or cookies. Definitely do not want to give them too much, just a little nibble and NO CANDY!!!!!!! I started giving my children oreos and chocolate cake and ice cream at about that age, the way I looked at it was they are nearing their first birthday and of course many parents want to give their child a cake and ice cream on their first birthday, so it is a good idea to slowly introduce that to them to make sure there will be no allergic reactions. However, it must be done in moderation! The last thing anyone needs is to have a child want to only eat chocolate. It'll cause way too many health problems later if they are given too much. So an oreo here and there, maybe a tiny slice of cake here and there is perfectly fine for a child of that age barring they have no health problems prior to giving them the chocolate. And remember, candy is a bad idea. It can be a choking hazard at that age amongst other possible problems.

most doctors say no chocolate until at least a year old, but aside from that, why do you want to feed it to your baby? she is too young to understand "treats," and there are much more nutritional things you can give her. plus, chocolate is messy!! of course just giving her a taste is no big deal. just keep an eye out for food allergies. it is best to only introduce one new food a week, just in case. talk to your pediatrician if you need to know more!

The reason for waiting on certain foods (like chocolate & peanut butter for example) is that the allergic reactions to these foods can be severe or deadly. Older babies aren't any more or less likely to be allergic, but they stand a better chance against this kind of reaction.

Not a good idea, I would suggest that if you truly want to give her a christmas treat let her have a few licks of a candy cane. Chocolate isn't good for babies, pediatricians recomend waiting until the child is 2.

A baby that young shouldn't eat chocolate because of all the things that is used to process chocolate and the fact that their little stomachs have a hard time digesting.

I have a 9 month old and I have let her taste chocolate ice cream. I don't see the big deal. As long as your not giving them a whole 7 0z chocolate bar. But that would Be your choice, because that is your baby. As long as you feel comfortable doing it, and it does not bring serious harm to your baby, go ahead.

I give on occasion chocolate cake to my 8 month old and it does not seem to affect him in any negative way, just remember not to give too much or too late at night since chocolate has a lot of sugar and does contain caffeine

NO, chocolate has a caffeine in it that is very hard on their bodies to break down. Never introduce chocolate until your baby is at least 18 months.

DOCTORS RECOMMEND WAITING UNTIL THEY ARE ONE, DUE TO THE FACT THEY COULD HAVE AN ALLEGIC REACTION AND THE CAFFINE IT CONTAINS. MY SON DIDN'T EAT A BITE BEFORE ONE, BUT MY DAUGHTER HAS EATEN SOME CHOCOLATE SINCE SHE WAS ABOUT 8 MONTHS OLD. I DON'T GIVE IT TO HER DAILY, OR MUCH AT A TIME. GOOD LUCK IN MAKING YOUR DECISION.
