Went to labor and delivery last tonight cause i noticed i was having contractions 5 minutes apart...although they were not painful ...just uncomfortable.....sure enough i was having them some 5 minutes apart some 3 and some only 1 minute...but they said even though they are close they are not tru labor or they would be more consistant...so they checked me and i am 60% effaced and only 1cm....however, i hear that being 60% effaced is good for a 1st time pregnancy even though i am only 1cm because the more effaced you become the quicker you dilate...soooo....just curious on what everyone thinks of all this....will i have my baby real soon...i am due in exactly one week....they also said the babies stationed at -2.....thanks...just curious

same thing happened to me with my second pregnancy! I was 60% effaced and 3 cm..and that lasted for 2 weeks..so it could be a while or you may go today..if you are excited about the baby coming..try bringing on labor in a natural way ;) I did and it worked! GOOD LUCK & CONGRATS

Effacement and dilation really say nothing about when you'll have your baby.....unless you're 100% and 10 cm! It's just another way that docs try to "manage" your pregnancy and birth. It truely doesn't give any useful info about when labor will come.

You can walk around for a week or more dilated 3-4 cm and 100% effaced. (Happened to me with my first!) Or you can be closed up tight as a bank vault and have a baby a few hours later.

Effacement is good. I read somewhere that the cervix thinning and opening is like putting on a turtleneck - if you can imagine that the neck part going over your head has to flatten out (efface) before it really opens (dilation). However, it could be today or it could happen in two weeks :) With first babies it's so hard to predict. Either way, hold on for the ride of your life! Enjoy every minute of that newborn baby!

You can't tell when you'll go into true labor based on that. YOu could be 1 cm dilated for another month.....

It could be tomorrow or it could be a while, no one can tell you for sure.
