You can try compatibility mode, although its not a guarantee.
Right click on the desktop shortcut icon, select properties, go to the Compatibility tab, check the "Run this program..." box and select Windows 95 in the dropdown.

In Windows XP there is a way of running MS-DOS-based applications but it doesn't work all the times. Right click on the exe file, select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and you'll know what to do.

Try using Dosbox, a free dos emulator for xp.

I've used it for a couple of things, and it's got a good enough help file to get you started.
