Yeah. It's been in "production hell" now for years hasn't it?

Last I heard, Doug Naylor was still struglling to get funding. He was offered £6 million, but the deal fell through as he reckoned he'd need more. At this point it's almost a dead duck, and Craig Charles recent exposure in the press with his crack-cocaine problem hasn't exactly had financial backers knocking at the door at the moment.

I'd like to see this, but I fear the chances aren't good at the moment, unless they get US funding, and after the mess the Americans made of their TV version of the show I wouldn't want to let the Yanks anywhere near this project!!

I doubt it. It would be unlikly as it is very rare for any BBC show to become a movie. The only ones I can think are things like the Quatermass films and the two Doctor Who films starring Peter Cushing. Because of the way the BBC works these days making spin off films is not very easy and also the rights to the product are usually split between the writers and the BBC.
Also I think that the cast are all busy people so the logistics would be difficult to arrange too.

They have been talking about making a movie for years. I heard they were supposed to in 2007 from a fellow Smeg head. (Seriously, that is what someone told me though, all jokes aside.).

All the original cast have signed on for the movie, the script is done, all it needs is the funding, and that is the problem. What it needs is for a rich Red Dwarf fan to step in, throw some money at the producers and it'll get done.

I don't think it's going to happen, to be honest. But series 8 was so absolutely awful, I'm not sure it's a bad thing. Just get series 1-6 boxsets and relive the good old days...

I doubt they will make it. Hardly anyone talks about it any more I loved the show though. If they did it would be cool for the fans of the show, sort of like a blast from the past I suppose. But I just can't see them making it now....

I hope not... the series are great and a movie would not have the actors, writers etc and would be made in Hollywood..

Look what they did to "The Hitch Hikers Guide"

Not going to happen i'm afraid.
And if it does it won't have the original cast.
Probably some hotshot superstars.
And it just wont be the same.
