After hooking up router with dsl, no internet connection is available, even the internet light on the dsl modem is not lit up. I connected ethernet cable from pc to the wan port on router. Then I connected another ethernet cable from the dsl router to one of the ports on the modem. Is this wrong or what did I do?

You said the Internet light on your DSL modem is not on. Do you mean that your not even getting your DSL signal? If thats the case your not going to get it to work unless the phone cord your using just happens to be bad. If you do have a solid DSL signal, then you need to connect an ethernet cable between your modem and your WAN connection on your router. You should have at least 4 LAN ports on the back of your router and you can connect any one of these to your PC. Then, you must configure your router to communicate thru your modem. Most ISP offering DSL use PPPOE to connect, you would enter your Username and Password given to you by your ISP into your router. Also, a lot of DSL modems have built in routers, and if this is the case you need to hook directly from your PC to your Modem, eliminating the router, and find a setting to "Bridge" your modem so that it turns off its own internal router, then reconnect your PC to the router and router to Modem. Hope this helps.

Did the DSL work before you hooked up the router? If so, did you have to supply a password in an application such as Enternet to get your connection to come up? If this is the case, your account uses PPPoE to connect your DSL. You need to add that configuration to your router first so that it can then make the DSL connection for you. Then you need to remove the Enternet software from your machine. Read the router's docs for instructions on setting up PPPoE connections.

If the DSL modem never worked then you need to troubleshoot that first. Is this a self install DSL? Did you follow ALL of the instructions to the letter? Did you install filters on ALL of the phones, faxes, and answering machines in your home? (And if you installed a filter on the line to the DSL modem, remove it now as it will block the DSL signals!)

Plug the DSL Modem to WAN port on the router. Then plug PC into one of the LAN ports on router. After that you may have to powercycle the DSL modem and router.
