Yes. Despite him being an ecellent Manager his health was declining and I really think they did it to help him in a round about way.

It's easy with hindsight to make a judgement but I suppose at the time it seemed right. He was a great manager in his time and probably would have gone on for two more years or so. I pity them now with the rodent. He took us down at West Ham.
They need a powerful and charismatic character someone with passion and that's not GR I'm afraid. Would Alan Shearer do any better...perhaps in the future he might.

I think the feeling was that Bobby had lost the dressing room and he was getting on in years. I think part of the problem was that Bobby himself seemed to think he could go on forever and the Newcastle board knew that at some point they'd have to take the decision to bring in someone younger, with fresh ideas. Unfortunately they brought in Souness. That's their real mistake.

When they did choose to get rid of Bobby it didn't really seem comepletely justified in terms of results so at the time I thought it was pretty unfair on him. I guess it had to happen sometime though - he was in his 70s.

I think they should have kept him either as manager or a coach or scout because if he'd stayed then Newcastle might have been a better football club and they might have been knocking on the door of the premeirship title and even knocking on the door of champions league football.

yes and no... tactically he's one of the best... but i was hearing stories all the time of him forgetting players names (especially with Kieran Dyer) doesn't fill you with confidence really.

Roeder certainly isn't the man for the toon job though...

On current evidence no not really, Glenn Roeder is not the man for this job at all.

Well Souness and Roeder have hardly done a great job so probably no.
