Im expecting in 3 weeks now, and I've just bought a treadmill. I want to start walking on it for a bit every day, but people in my family say it isn't safe for whatever reason. Has anyone else used a treadmill in pregnancy, and what is your opinion on using one?

Exercise is very healthy during pregnancy as long as you don't over do it. I would say if you want to walk on your treadmill for no more than like 15 or 20 minutes a day you should be ok. Make sure to set the speed as low or moderate, nothing too fast. Just make sure to drink plenty of water and don't work out too much. Walking is healthy in pregnancy, however as you get closer to your due date you should probably cut back a little. Good luck.

Walking on a treadmill during pregnancy could be dangerous because people sometimes fall and any fall could be bad for your baby. Also, you are not supposed to start a new exercise routine while you are pregnant, only continue with the exercise routine you had before, unless you are doing it with your doctor's supervision. I suggest you wait until after the baby is born to get on the treadmill.

If you do decide to use the treadmill now, I hope it has a safety clip, please use it so that if you do fall, the treadmill will stop. Also, make sure you are holding the hand rails at all times. A fall that would normally only give you a few bruises could be much more damaging to your baby.

Of course it's safe even the doc tells you to walk, i did'nt use a treadmill but i would go to the park and walk a mile everyday. excersize is great unless you are having complications with the pregnancy and the doc. tells you not to. but for your own piece of mind call your doc and ask them. walking is suppost to be good for delivery and lots of other things. just don't over exaust yourself with it. Good Luck and Congradulations!!!

Uh yeah, and it's perfectly safe. Why wouldn't walking be safe?? My doctor told me in my third trimester to not use the incline or go to fast (just like walking at the store...take it easy and don't over work yourself). I think your family is a little whacked, no offense! Good Luck

There's absolutely no reason you shouldn't be able to exercise all through your pregnancy, especially walking. I would avoid high-impact exercise or things that stress your stomach muscles, but walking would actually be benificial! It relieves stress, improves cardiovasular fitness, and improves your strength. Also, exercise now will help you recover from giving birth later.

Of course it's ok. Just don't start running or using the incline feature. If walking weren't OK we'd all be bedridden the last trimester.

Why wouldn't it be safe - it's walking and great for you. Start off slow, don't overdo the time, and stop if you feel any contractions.

yes you can just at a slow pace and not up hill. you don't want to fall. walking will help with labor as well. good for you. good luck and congrats on the baby.

YES YES AND YES. JUST DON'T OVER DO IT. ABOUT 20 MIN A DAY AT AN EASY RATE. AS LONG AS YOU FEEL OK, THEN YOU SHOULD BE FINE. REMEMBER THOUGH, WALKING CAN INDUCE LABOR, SO IF YOU ARE HAVING CONTRACTIONS, REST A WHILE OR YOU MIGHT GO INTO LABOR.

Yes, that is great for walking. The only risk is falling. If you keep it slow enough, you should be fine. running would be a problem. you could fall then. That also could help with going into labor! good luck!
