every house has its own smell unique to the family that lives in it. this smell is caused by : 1) the kind of food that is often cooked in it. 2) the family members personal body odors 3) the cleansers, chemicals, detergents used to clean the house, laundry, etc. 4)pets,if they have any 5)air-fresheners,incense, scented candles, perfume, cologne etc.
this smell is not neccessarily a bad thing, just a unique part of a family unit's identity. i have never been personally offended by the smell of another families house, and because ive never been able to detect it in my own house, ive often been curious about what others might think of it. but no one's ever commented on it. i wouldnt worry about your house if i was you, unless you think the smell is objectionable--ie. burnt food, litter box, B.O. etc. if you do decide to clean, remember that most smells are trapped in carpets, linens, drapes, upholstery. so cleaning these items will make a big difference. also, leave the windows open for an hour or so before evryone arrives.

Turn the fan off while you are out of the house for an hour or so. You will probably be able to tell what your house smells like then. If it smells bad, you can Febreze carpets & furniture in addition to the candles & air freshener.

You a acustomed to the smell of your own house. I would ask a friend who does not live with you about the odor of your house.
There are several products the will remove odors from a home without a heavy perfume smell

your nose becomes adjusted to any scent usually within 20 minutes whether your house smells good or bad you will probably never really notice unless it's when you first walk in.
My suggestion is to burn candles and to clean your house thoroughly. You can also use baking soda on your carpets before you vacuum to help neutralize odors that may be lingering.
hope this helps

Ask a friend to walk into your house from outside and tell you if they smell anything unusual and ask them to be brutally honest.
