I just learned how to knit by following the instructions on "About.com" (type 'knitting instructions' in their browser). An easy first but cute project is a poncho. Just two rectangles sewn together and add fringe. I forget where I found the instructions for the poncho but just type "free knitted poncho instructions" in your web browser. There are only two basic stitches to learn: basic knit stitch and then there is a stitch called a 'purl' stitch. Most other knitting is just combinations of those two. Also, almost any craft store should have books that contain simple instructions and other books containing projects like ponchos or scarves. (Don't start with a sweater....believe me, I learned this the hard way!) Good Luck!!!!
