My son graduated with a degree in accounting.
He has applyied to so many jobs. Emailed, posted on the web, mailed his resume to jobs and most of them don't answer. I have been praying but it seems that my prayer dosn't get answered. Any suggestions how to get a job.
What happened to the old fashion way go to a company and feel out an application?

It sounds like he needs to network. I have the same problem, but have found my best resources for job leads is to get to know people. Is he getting out and getting acquainted. Is he willing to consider a lower paid position and work into his degree? Sometimes you need to make sacrifices to get where you want to go.

There is a lot of competition out there today. If someone has a degree in something, there will always be another person with a higher degree. Your son's best bet would be for him to sign up with an agency (or a head hunter) and let them do the leg work for potential jobs. These agencies usually don't charge the applicant fees because the employers pay them.

Maybe your son is being too picky. Getting a job in a similar field is always an option. Or, maybe your son is only targetting a select group of companies. Maybe he should expand his options from the Big 3 accounting firms to maybe even nonprofit companies. Being open and willing shows true character.

Instead of looking for a job why not start a small bookkeeping and tax company. There is lots of opportunity in this field, run some ads and post in classified ads.

we've been lied to by the company's that say they want at least a degree but what they really want is experience....or they're willing to train less qualified people to pay them less

and there's always the VIP who gets their family member the job without any questions

He needs to contact them himself.
I always filled out the apps, then gave it a few days and called them. it shows interest and initiative.
