You owe them their two weeks pay.
That person has given you notice, which is very kind on their part, because they could have stiffed you and just walked out. Just because you let them go early doesn't mean you don't have to pay them. You can't "fire" them after they have given notice, they can go to the Labour Board (as it is called in Canada, but I'm sure there are equivalents in other countries), and report you. Then you'll be required to pay up by law, and you'll have a mark on your record. Pay up, be nice, and be thankful that you have had a responsible employee. No need to burn bridges or get nasty. Have a great day!

If you are in a at will employment state they could just let you go right then. with out pay. but most companies do not do that bad ethics. Usually someone in a higher position they buy them out for that two weeks. most companies thinking on this is that they would like a 2 week notice and they should let the employee work it out.

You basically fired them so depending on the state and company rules and guidelines you had them sign. Your highly liable. But you may be able to get around it if you have a written and signed 2 week notice and may be obligated to pay that or a portion. Otherwise your liable, sorry! Should have offered a severance pay or let them work it out and had them sign an agreement that says otherwise. Best wishes!

You should compensate them for any days of the two week notice that you chose to not have them work.

You don't have much, as they quit.
You have to pay any owed vacation pay, but not the two weeks unless there is a union involved.
