Yes. Most Japanese r interested in Japanese famous players but not the teams.
It is NOT a prejudice, They love their people. That's all.
Who says "the best"? Isn't it US medias or sport journalist who write articles in English?
Japanese ppl and medias doesn't say "the best" not that much (I had ever heard this word often in another Asian country as well *smile*).
You will find similar phenomenon in Japan. Ppl know Bobby and the "shinjirarenai" famous Hillman very much, but not their teams. People love people.
By the way, what baseball team in Japan do you know or do you like? Probably most Americans doesn't know Japanese teams. No doubt, but what difference does it make?

I would say Seattle, NY Yankees and Dodgers. Seattle because they're is a large japanese population in seattle so of course they are going to rrot for Seattle. And is for that reason that the seatttle Mariners were able to sign Ichiro and their catcher Suzuki. Why else would they want to go to Seattle? The yankees are popular cause they are the New York Yankees. They are popular everywhere, thats why they were able to get matsui other than all the money the Yankees gave him and the Yankees invested on him cause they knew the marketing of his name in Japan. the Dodgers in the other hand have the most tide roots to japan. After WWII, the Dodgers toured japan many times and developed many relationships with japanese baseball. So the Dodgers have a far older fan base in Japan and thats why they were able to get Nomo, the first major japanese player in MLB. I wouldnt put Boston in this catagory cause they are a recent trendy team. Boston is now trying to establish a fan base in Japan by signing whats his name that new japanese pitcher.

Ah, so THIS is where all hell breaks loose, is it?!!
I have to say that it's totally true that Japanese baseball fans (and other Japanese people) DO only really like American teams with Japanese players. Matsui and Ichiro are frequently the stars of their own mini-news bulletins..!
But why is that supposed to be wrong? Which Japanese baseball teams do Americans like? Probably none! And who cares?
Frankly, there's NO reason whatsoever for Japanese people to be interested in American baseball teams. There ARE plenty of (mostly) home-grown Japanese teams you know..! (That's to you, Daniel Garcia..! And you should be pleased that Japanese people show an interest in American teams, whatever the reason, because they're making MONEY for America in the process...!!!)
As for the fans at Japanese baseball games, they get over-excited, but I've not heard of any violence. It's mostly quite childish excitement, which is far more healthy than the drink & drug fuelled excitement that some sports fans suffer from ... (and no, I'm NOT pointing the finger at America - I was thinking of British 'football hooligans' - and now French ones..!)

I think the Japanese are more interested in the Japanese players in America than they are about US baseball teams. However, Seattle, NY, LA are probably the most popular.

When Hideo Nomo was at his peak of popularity, NHK satellite would show the games that Nomo started. When the reliever came in, the broadcast would switch to normally scheduled programming-NO JOKE-TRUE STORY!. The NHK deserves the award for all time worst sports broadcasting for sucking people into watching 7 innings of the Dodgers and then, "sorry-too bad, no Nomo-no Dodgers for you sucker". The have long since changed that policy, but that shows you how much interest there is in Japan in MLB per se.

They only like those teams that have japanese players. I am so sick of hearing them talk about Ichiro & Matsui! Like those are the best players in American baseball! But the japanese will NEVER admit that they are biased or prejudice! They just don't like any teams that don't have a japanese player! haha...
"Joriental" - you should be aware that your English is really bad. It isn't even understandable what you are trying to say half of the time.
