I am 50 yrs. old and having irregular periods, none for three months, then a period for eight weeks. Is this normal, do not have the money for a doctor.

Sounds like your periods are starting to shut down. It's a natural process, so it's not a big deal if you don't see a doctor. However, some women have symptons, such as hot flashes, that do need a doctor's health. If possible, increase your intake of soy products - tofu in place of meat whenever possible, and "Silk" instead of milk. This usually lessens the discomforts associated with menopause.

You are in peri-menopause. Once you have gone without a period for 12 consecutive months, then you will have had menopause.
