Nolan Ryan struck out 17 batters while pitching his second no-hitter, which is the most ever:

On the flip side, Ken Holtzman threw a no-hitter with no strikeouts.

FOR KING BELOW - You are NOT the only "real" fan - in fact, you have no idea what you're talking about. Randy Johnson struck out 13 batters in his perfect game. Check the boxscore:

In the major leagues, Nolan Ryan of the California Angels struck out 17 while no-hitting the Detroit Tigers on July 15, 1973.
In the minor leagues, Ron Necciai of the Bristol Twins in the Appalachian League struck out 27 batters in a nine inning no-hitter against the Welch Miners on May 13, 1952. For the record, four of the Welch hitters did reach base on a walk, an error, a hit by pitch and a passed ball. The latter resulted in a four-strikeout ninth inning. The only batter who made put a ball in play was retired on a grounder in the second inning.

lol Yeah, you're a baseball genius. Ryan threw his third of seven career no-hitters against the Twins in September of 1974, not 1999. Ryan retired from baseball at the end of the 1993 season after 27 years in the majors, the most ever by any baseball player in the modern era (since 1900).

I do not know why everyone keeps saying Nolan Ryan. Am I the only real baseball fan here? Randy Johnson struck out exactly 20 batters (the most ever) when pitching his perfect game. And a perfect game IS a type of no-hitter, so it is Randy Johnson while on the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Nolan Ryan fanned 15 Minnesota Twins in 1999. That day he pitched his third no-hitter. Yet for his second no hitter against the Detroil Tigers he stuck out 17. That was in 1973.
