Is it legit? Yes, absolutely legit. They are accredited, and they aren't, technically, a "diploma mill". But do employers respect their degrees? It depends on the employer, but in general - not so much.
I usually recommend that, unless you absolutely can not attend class in person, you instead look for a reputable, local, brick and mortar university. Or if you must go online, try to find a program tied to a reputable university. I'll list a few for you to start with:
University of Massachusetts at Amherst
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
University of Denver
University of Maryland
Duke University
Drexel
Carnegie Mellon
Penn State
Ball State
U Nebraska - Lincoln
Babson
Worcester Polytechnic Institute
University of Illinois
And there are others. But in general, when you're looking for a distance learning degree, try to find a program at a school that has a good reputation for their "brick and mortar" campus.
Good luck.

Not very credible. Most employers will look past you once they see you have a degree from that school. If your only option is online, then try a state university with an online program. University of Phoenix is a business. They like to get as many people as they can (that is why getting in is so easy) then people cant pass their classes and they are stuck with debt. It is a great business.

University of Phoenix is completely legit. They are, however; very expensive and a lot of the classes are online and I feel that they give more work than a regular college class would. They do work with you regarding finacial aid and grants and such because I have had several co-workers use them concerning pell grants.

It probably depends on your major, In nursing you need a license, (LPN) in some states. Before you can register. It really dosen't matter because of the need in nursing. Shaquille Oneil (basketball player) got his Masters from Pheonix

It is absolutely legitimate. They are certified and their credits transfer to other universities. They are accredited and they have that information on file for proof.
