The Mets desperately need pitchers. I say let Glavine go back to the Braves so he can be close to home and spend some money and get Barry Zito. He's only 28 and he's willing to play for a major market in the East.

The Mets have been patient waiting for Glavine to make up his mind and it certainly paid off. Glavine has agreed to come back to the Mets in '07 and a vesting option for '08. Personally, as a Mets fan, I'm really happy that Glavine has decided to come back. Not only because the Mets desperately needs pitchers but also because well, quite simply, it's Tom Glavine. I know how some people are saying that the Mets should really go after Zito 'cause he's so much younger and has talent, etc. Well, so does Glavine and age doesn't seem to impair his plays. Plus, as of right now, he's only signed for an additional year. It's not like they sign him for another four years or something. But talking about Zito, would I like to see him playing for the Mets? Of course I do. The only remaining question now is are the Mets goin' to spend all that money on Zito or not?

As great as Glavine has been, he represents the past. Zito could be the future for the next 8 to 10 years. Glavine has stated that he wants to play until he reaches his 300th win. Right now he stands at 290. If I were Glavine and wanted to get those 10 wins this season, I'd stay with the Mets. The Braves are in a rebuilding stage and that's something I would not want any part of. At best Glavine is short term so if I were the Mets I would still go after Zito. Of course the Yankees might have something to say about that!! And from what I hear lately Texas could be in the mix.

Glavine signed a one year contract with the Mets today, but they should still sign Barry Zito. With Pedro questionable at best and Glavine in the twilight of his career, Zito would be the ace of the staff. With Zito and Glavine providing leadership, Pelfry and Bannister could work themselves into the rotation with much less pressure. If Pedro returns, the Mets will have a nice top of the rotation. When the playoffs come around, add El Duque into the mix and you've got a pretty good post season 4 man rotation.

Regardless of the decision of Glavine the Mets should at least attempt to sign him because Barry Zito is a very consistent player and is calm on the mound. Barry Zito is like a younger and healthier Tom Glavine. Also Barry Zito has the stuff that not many NL hitters have seen. If signed Barry will most likly improve because he will be with his former pitching coach in Rick Peterson who helped Barry achieve his Cy Young award.

I think Tom Glavine is waiting for Barry Zito to make up his mind first. If he signs with the Rangers, Glavine will probably sign with the Braves and if Zito chooses the Braves Glavine will sign with
Mets.

I think they should wait for Tom Glavine cause Glavine is a really good pitcher when he was with the Atlanta Braves

Zito will become a Yankee before a Met. he will sign with an American League Team. and if i were a Met, i sign Glavine for next year, and wait for the FA next season, before giving a 80-100 Million dollar contract to a picher who´s stadistics are declining every year.

I wouldn't be surprised that the sign both of those players. Minaya covets Zito so that may get done rather soon and if Glavine doesn't get the no-trade clause he is lookiing for from the Braves, he'll be Met bound. Not too shabby.
