Well, if it's during her period, technically it isn't PMS, which denotes PRE-menstrual syndrome (BEFORE her period). She has what is jokingly referred to as DMS (during menstrual syndrome).
Her mood swings are caused by the rapidly changing levels of hormones in her system, and also the physical discomfort and pain she may be suffering. You should try to be understanding and sympathetic, just as you would if she were sick with a cold.
It's common for some women to get "out of control" during this time. But please remember that while she may be OVERreacting, she is still reacting to a valid stressor. In other words, just because she has her period and is screaming at you, doesn't mean you didn't do something wrong. The reaction may be extreme, but the cause is often valid.
Try to be understanding and extra sweet; offer her backrubs and hot packs for her cramps; milk, chocolate, or evening primrose oil can all help reduce the symptoms.

When a girl has her womanly cycle, it is no fun. It can be painful, with cramps, it can be stressful with getting acne, it can cause fatigue, and to tell you the truth it is a b*&^%. It can also be messy. So add all this to elevated hormones in a woman and you are likely to get an overly sensative, moody chick. Believe me, having a period is not an excuse to be a B*&^%$. It is a reality. I really do not think that men would be able to deal with it. The best thing a man can to is either to stay away, or be supportive. There is no telling what kind of mood your woman might be in, but just roll with it and try not to get to upset. Maybe get a sock and fill it up with rice, put it in the microwave until it gets nice and warm and see is she might want to put it on her abdomen to relieve cramps.

Don't leave her alone,cause then she'll say you're just ignoring her..and it's a bad thing to ignore a girl.
Just dont be so pushy..let her be that way,she has a right to..
it's the hormones that make her act like a witch.
Give her chocolate.. and ...she's always right..you're always wrong.
if you go w/that motto you'll make her a happy girl.
If you got shocking sensations, in your stomach every month
that feel like a razor is cutting away your insides, you'd be like a b-itch too..

Hormones. Simple as that. When I first started at 11 I never had pms, after my son at 27 I have violent moodswings the week before (I am the stereotype for why women cannot be president - I would push the red button).
Have her take MIDOL a week before her period (if she's regular) that should help. Birthcontrol pill help too, thats what I'm on...no more mood swings.

It is called hormones. You could try to be understanding for her. Periods can be very painful. Give her a back/foot rub. Make her a warm bubble bath, a cup of hot tea, or her favorite chocolate treat. There are lots of things you can do to make her feel better.

Probably the excruciating pain. Imagine your insides being doused with lighter fluid then set on fire, then imagine thousands of tiny men inside your stomach stabbing your insides with blunt rusted knives and you'll understand about 5% of what some women's cramps feel like.
You need to draw your girl a hot bath and put her in it with some relaxing music and candles and wait it out. She's not doing it on purpose.

Try to be understanding of the fact that she has absolutely no control over the hormonal swing that is occuring within her and that she is likely suffering more than you are.

Just stay the f*ck out of her way dude, just do whatever she ask. When she's off her period finally, she's usually super horny, so it's worth it.
