ive replace alternators before but im going to have to take something apart i just dont know what is best

i own a repair shop,and the first thing you need to do is remove the battery cable from it,,then remove the belt from it,,this you can do by releasing the tension on the belt tension-er,and then remove the bolts that hold the alternator on,and remove it from the engine,putting it back is just t he opposite of this,,if you,ll take your time with it,,you can get it on ,and off,,you need to purchase a good repair manual on this truck,it will help you a lot in the near future on all repair jobs,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Go to the local auto parts store and buy the shop manual for the truck. Haynes and Clymer are several of the available publications. Don't ever start a project with the proper knowlege or support. The alternator isn't a tough job, just remove the serpentine belt at the tensioner pulley and the wiring from the alternator first. Sometimes GM makes it tough to work with the brackets to get clearance.

loosen the tension bolt on the top. 2. take out the bottom bolt . 3. remove alt. 4. replace oppisite way as you took it off.

Go to your local parts store and buy a Haynes manual. The procedure will be in it.
