Wonder is the catalyst for inventions, progress, of change, of moving forwards.
If you cease to wonder, i guess the only way you could go is backwards.

Hmmmm.... I wonder what does happen :) ...what a bad joke.
Seriously, I don't think in a technical sense that we can really stop wondering. Of course, it does depends on how you are using the term. By wondering you could mean merely considering possibilities (whether future possibilities or logical possibilities) without really pursuing the fact/oddity further than the wonder.
Aristotle believed that philosophical inquiry begins with wonder. Descartes also discussed wonder at some length in his treatise "The Passions of the Soul." For Descartes wonder should only be used as a starting point from which we should pursue serious thought. Excessive wonder (think continuous deer in the headlights expression) can be damaging. So, I think that wonder is a natural response which all humans possess. What humans do with wonder, though, is ultimately what determines whether or not any real progress will be made.
If interested in a discuss of Descartes' view of wonder, see the stanford encyclopedia link included w/ my answer.

You become President of the United States!
All kidding aside. Wonder, imagination and rational thinking(sometimes) I believe is what keeps mankind going. If we didn't think, we would be just another animal reacting only to our instinct and not critically thinking about solutions, the cosmos, and everything else that we should be in awe from. We as human beings have a gift(not sure from where we got it) but a gift nevertheless to think, for good or evil. To sum it up when a human being stops wondering that probally means he/she has died and is dead therefore no more brain activity. No more wondering.

When you stop wondering you stop living. without wonder we're all just stuck in the same place day after day. Life would be almost predictable, where's the fun in that?

One reason people do that is because they think they are so smart they thing they have all the answers. When in fact, they are far from it.
Or else.....you are so old and perhaps sick, that you really don't care anymore. And I can understand that. But I hope I never get get be either of what I have stated.

Happens that you break your future; and with this, you brake your life -as-full, then your past- at last, your present.
