pretty girl!
when i proposed a few weeks ago in egypt under a full moon on a beautiful lonely beach. solitaire diamond set in Platinum band.
the ring cost me £750 and the look on her face was priceless. I got really annoyed at this price thing when i would hear girls talking about 2 months wages! im not cheap but im not stupid either, i mean if you have oodles of money thats great.
i think the only stipulation when buying a ring is that the fiance to be will be proud to wear it and proud to be with you.
plus value and cost are two differant things, a ring from argos can cost your a grand but a better quality ring from a family business can cos half as much!

Truthfully? (And I'm a guy, so I guess you can dismiss this reply on that basis if you don't like it). I read recently about the dangerous chemicals that are produced as a by-product of purifying gold. I'm also aware of the rather less than squeaky-clean reputation of diamond companies. For these reason, and the fact that I like antiques with some history to them, I would prefer a second-hand ring. You can also get better quality gold up to 22ct. As for the price, who cares? It's not like you get one every day, so it's the ring not the price that counts.
But in the end you get what you're given (unless you chose the ring together, which I think is far less romantic). How much you consider this a reflection of your fiancee's opinion of you, your 'worth' or his love for you is for you to decide.
BTW - If I was your intended, I'd feel insulted by this question. But hey, that's just me.

Usually the engagement ring cost less than the wedding ring but this all depends on his means. I don't think your a gold digger maybe you both should go shopping for the ring so he can see the type of ring you like. That's what me and my ex did when we finished i did give it him back. He went to the shop while i was at work to buy it. A nice surprise

Yeah, your question makes you sound like a gold digger. However, I used to think that you only get married once and chances are it's the only diamond most women are going to get so, it should be a nice one but; people fall in and out of love and marriages so easily these days, I wonder if they shouldn't do away with the whole engagement ring thing. To answer your question I think DeBeers says 6 months salary.

My ex and I spoke about getting married and I don't hink he would have spent more than £100. although that's probably not a bad thing seeing as I'm really clumsy and lose things. hopefully the next love interest will have some real money to spend. I would have been quite happy with that though, I've seen some nice white gold ones with only a few points of diamond and I was so in love with him that would have been enough.

The size of the diamond does not matter. Its the size of the love behind it. If that is the ring you like, then that is the ring you should have. There is no such thing as "acceptable" when it comes to things like this. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Those people are shallow and have no idea what real love is about. Good for you and your bf. I hope you have a wonderful life together. Congrats!

As you say, it's not the cost of the ring but the feeling behind it.
My first engagement ring cost £6. I don't think an engagement ring is that important anyway. My eternity ring was the most expensive at £850. But it's the £6 one which makes me smile when I see it and brings back the sweetest memories.

I asked this question some time ago and got a lot of .....not so nice....replies!!! I have looked at rings since and you get nice ones about £350 but they are 9ct gold which isnt a good gold at all. Better to get one thats 18ct an pay more for it.

My ring i got 13 years ago cost my now husband £130 which at the time was one weeks wages. That to me was the best as he had worked for a week just for me.

The thing is you think that price counts but it doesn't. Mine was £300, and i would have liked him to spend more, say £700- £1000. The thing is, shop around. Mine was a bargain, and rightly so because that meant i could get more pressies. But really i would say, between £300 and £500. unless your minted then spend on.......
