ha!
I actually saw this question addressed in a recent(ish?) issue of Discover and they said it was the egg. Evolution would have developed the first true chicken at some point in the past, but it had to grow in an egg first.

Of course its the egg. A chicken is a domesticated animal, a product of selected breeding. It anscestors did not lay eggs daily. The progeny of a domesticated bird which laid eggs despite the season was interbred to produce a chicken; therefore the egg of a less domesticated bird came first. Wen it hatched and interbred with its own, then the chicken became what it is today.
Everything starts as an egg, seed, or an idea and then matures into whatever it becomes.

I know it was the chicken. God created the world, man, and all the animals. The bible said that God created animals, not eggs. Evolution is stupid. 1 animal cannot turn into a totally different animal, and until someone sufficiently proves that to me, I will still believe that evolution makes no sense.

The chicken and here's how I know this to be true:
When God created the world, He created the heavens and the earth, all the mammals of the land and the fishes of the sea. He created man. He then created Eve. He did not create embryos. He created the adult form of all living things. Therefore, obviously the chicken came first.

I'm sure the chicken is a descendant of the tyrannosaurus Rex - the chicken evolved from them.... so I think you're right.
