A common manifestation of passive aggressiveness in relationships is when someone does not react to something that really bothers him/her at the time (passive), then later, when it is too late to right the perceived wrong, or the issue is not really at hand, the same person gets very upset and acts out over the earlier issue (aggressive). Such behavior is especially frustrating to the other party, who basically gets ambushed and then has to try and sort out exactly what the problem is while ducking flying pots and pans.

Passive aggressive is a way of showing anger without actually being angry. It can involve back-handed compliments, starting gossip, silent treatments, sublte insults, sarcasm, etc.

It is not a good way to behave. Studies have shown that passive aggressive behavior ends relationships (marriage, friendships, and family) much more often. It is much better to let a person know that you're angry and discuss it, rather than try to bottle it up.

"Passive-aggressive behaviour refers to passive, sometimes obstructionist resistance to authoritative instructions in interpersonal or occupational situations. It can manifest itself as resentment, stubbornness, procrastination, sullenness, or intentional failure at doing requested tasks. For example, people who are passive-aggressive might take so long to get ready for a party they do not wish to attend that the party is nearly over by the time they arrive."

If you want to be passive aggressive say things that are subtly snide, like, "Oh, you don't look as bald when you comb your hair like that." Or, "I like that way that outfit hides your paunch."

Essentially, just find subtle ways to be a jerk.

The silent treatment is a good example.
