Here in Spain, the children at school have to take a toy in that they don't use any more, it has to be in good condition, then the schools give them to people on low income that carn't afford xmas so that all the school kids get a least one toy for xmas. I think thats what real Charity is looking after your own, with lille or no expense spared:)

Dickie think the name speaks for its self! and to the "christ" answer, if you were a five year old and everyone one talking about what they got "christ" wouldn't be there to cheer him up! Its about giving and receiving, not all of us beleive in GOD! My kids celebrate ST NICOLAS GIVING TO THE POOR!

In my hometown, we do this thing called the Angel Tree. Kids send in their wish list, and people adopt these kids and buy them what they want. It was so sad to hear the other day on the radio that a five year old girl wanted "any toy." How sad is it that five year olds aren't as picky as most adults? My family is adopting both a boy and a girl. I want my kids to grow up knowing what it is like to help others, and having compassion for those in need.

That is nice. I went to a private high school and at Christmas every class would "adopt" a family (I guess a church would provide contact info for the family.) Our class collected money and then a teacher would take some students shopping. Usually they bought toys and clothing for each kid and a turkey for the family.

Well I think it's a lovely idea...and do they give the presents on the day of The Kings...is it January 6th? If everyone did that and children learned from an early age to share and think about those less fortunate than themselves the world might become a nicer place instead of ...I want ...I want...I want....

Christmas isn't about toys. It is about the birth of Christ. I think everyone should stop focusing on 'who can afford what' and 'who gets what for Christmas' and start focusing on the true meaning of Christmas.

I think that is a really lovely idea, it also teaches the kids who give so generously that not every child is a lucky as they are.

Schools should confine themselves to academic education rather than these schemes that are soft options for teachers.
