There should be something in your settings where you can change it to not go into sleep/hibernate mode. I don't know if it has anything to do with the computer brand itself, but what operating system you are running it on... we run XP. Under Control Panel ->Power Options -> Advanced -> about 1/2 way down Power Buttons "when I close the lid of my protable computer" Select "Do Nothing" on the drop down. This SHOULD fix the problem.

Go to Start>Settings>Control Panel. Once there, double click "Power options" and pick the "Advanced" tab, there should be a listing of of options, one of which says "When I close the lid of my portable computer" then has a drop-down under it, if you select "Do Nothing" it should keep running normally even when you close the lid.
If you go to Control Panel and power options isn't there, look for some text that says "Switch to classic view" and click that. It should change the way the window looks and power options should show up.
This may not be exactly the same, I'm looking at a Latitude D600 for reference, but it should be similar.
