i was wondering, does it hurt a worm? The other day, when it rained i picked up a worm from my driveway and threw it onto the lawn. then i thought to myself, "That would hurt us, but what about a worm?" Anyone have any answers?

I don't think you hurt it. The worm is light enough, and the lawn is soft enough, that the impact is minimal and I am sure the worm made it through okay. You probably saved it from being found and eaten by a bird. Birds seem to know that worms come to the surface after a rain and they often gorge themselves on worms crawling on driveways.

Good luck with your worm rescues!

You are talking about a creature that moves his body through tight holes in the ground so I don't think being tossed onto grass is a trauma for it. Drowning on the driveway if you had not picked it up would be a trauma so you did the right thing.

The male portion of the worm is ok, but the female part is heartbroken

Well, if they don't have nerves and throwing them on the lawn doesn't hurt them, then why do they squirm so much when you put them on a hook? Those little buggers try their hardest to get away.

next time you get a similar opportunity, look closely at him after you throw him. if he scurries away quickly, it didn't hurt. if he kinda' lays there for a few moments, either he's stoned, or it hurt.

Probably not. They are just like cats. They land on their own feet(cats that is).Probably it hurts like heck if they are put on a hook though.

They're pretty squishy, I would imagine that it doesn't hurt. You probably scared the hell out of it though.

It's not silly, it just means that you have a kind heart. No, it doesn't hurt them.
