Iraq has many ethnic and religious groups, the main 3 obviously being Kurd, Shia (sic?) and Sunni. Can the civil war be ended by a stronger leader replacing Maliki? Why or why not? Thanks!

I hate to say it but those people can't handle freedom. They need a iron fisted thug to keep them in line, which is why toppling Saddam was such a dumb thing to do.

First "We" are not voting Iraqi citizens. But the main influences in this civil war are foreign not domestic.
Saudi... Wahhabi provoke and nurture Sunni Shea conflict.
Iran ... Shea based theocracy desires to re unite ancient Persian Empire. Shea from the Hindu Cush to the Sea.
Curds ... Stand to profit most by separation An independent Kurdistan would unite Turkish PPK Kurds with the oil rich Iraq Kurds.
Good thing we are removing all those WMD's

Maliki has been given death threats unless he goes along with rad dictates. He knows what will happen but they want US out so they devised a good 'we want to do it' pull-out message to get rid of US. The world is standing back watching these killers take-over. Pretty soon it will be too late.

Bush should give him the light armored vehicles and helicopters he's asked for, and then wait and see if he becomes a strongman like Mushariff or Saddam. The British and some Iraqis proposed a five man junta of oligarchs to rule Iraq, perhaps they could impose civil order.

Ah, yes, I love your idea of spreading "democracy" and "freedom" to the Iraqi people.
As long as it is the U.S. doing the replacing, he will be guaranteed to fail.
You've got to understand ... U.S. endorsement of any Iraqi leader, is a guaranteed kiss of death for him.
