I dont know but we were talking about this book in my english class the other day! My teacher said it was his favorite.

Faust 1 is not harder to read than any Shakespeare play (hard enough some might say but definetely worth the while).
Part 2 contains multitudes of allusions to Greek mythology and is a lot harder too read.

It depends on the translation. The original German is hard, but some of the newer translations clean it up a bit.
You might want to check out Christopher Marlowe's version, "Dr. Faustus" for a different version of the same story, which I found to be easier.
