I have never been there (yet!), but I know that the temperatures are milder during the winter months. You should probably avoid the (very) rainy season (summer) when everything floods. but you should try to find out exactly what months that happens, so you can plan better. A travel agency might be able to help you. Or look for any website about the Amazon. Try google-ing something like "Amazon rain season".

It rains almost all the year around because of the tropical climate but the summer months, Nov. to Feb are the most rainy and have the highest temperature. Insects are pretty much year round but a good repellent should take care of that. The Amazon is just beautiful - Go!
