I never try to think about a tournament that way, you just have to try and get your money in with the best hand. If it is a loose table i might try and steal some pots, but i just try to look at each situation as it happens. Now that's not saying that i don't have a strategy for winning but trying to play like that will get you in trouble. Just play good solid poker from start to finish and you will do well and stack chips. Trying to make to much happen can break your chips in a hurry....

Play somewhat tight. Most tables start out playing real tight, so if you pick up some connectors, you can pick off some cheap chips.

I usually play connectors at the begining, if I don't catch the flop I'm gone.

Try playing online using both ways, then you will figure out what works best for you.

I think it's best to play loose in order to start picking up pots. Hold them as tight as you can.

You want play tight at the beginning, and bet, raise your winning hands, when you know you have the best hand be aggressive, you don't want jeopardy's all your chips at the beginning of the tournament.....but keep in mind other player can see that and try to take advantage of it. The best to is to adapt your play to your table, give a table image and use it at your advantage.

you can take a look at my site, on tournaments strategies.

take care
