It varies depending upon skill, experience, location, reputation and other factors. Some do make a lot, others very little.

No, its a commodity service, bottom of the pile.

Many advertising companies throw in web design for free.

Used to be good, but its an industry that saw its birth, heyday and collapse all within a 10 year period.

Many will work in a place to build up 'real world' skills then go to freelance.

Freelance tends to pay more and on your terms.
