Very infrequently my Buick will not start. Sometimes it will go for a month or more and start just fine. Then, for no reason, it will not start. I wait for 20 minutes or so and it will start again. I have taken it to the dealer and one time thay kept it for a week but it wouldn't fail to start while they had it and the computer showed no errors. Help!

When the key is turned, nothing happens although all the instrument lights are on.

Have the starting relay changed. That is is the motor won't "turn over" during those times. If it turns over and simply won't "Run" then quite a few things it could be including fuel pump, crank sensor, computer, etc.

Look at the starter as the culprit. The way it is built it has a segmented portion with brushes that supply power to the windings in a manner that makes the starter very powerful. Now if your car has an older one there is a chance that the brushes have worn enough or the segmented shaft has worn enough to prevent a good connection and so the car won’t start. The next time this happens try tapping the starter with a tire iron or any other tool and see if that works, if so, get a starter. It is luck of the draw and the dealership wass not able to duplicate your problem...............

There isn't enough information. What exactly happens when you turn the key when it doesn't start? One thing you could do that is basically free and may solve the problem, is to remove the cables from the battery, clean the ends and clean the battery posts. The build up of corrosion and crud on these parts limit and or prevent voltage from getting in OuT out of the battery.

in addition to the good advice from the others who have answered... you may want to have your ignition switch checked. these things do wear out and this would cause intermittent problems with the car starting.
