the best band of all comtemporary bands is the Beatles as quoted by: The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, Led Zeppelin Robert Plant, Black Sabbath's Ozzy Osbourne, The Rolling stone's Mick Jagger, Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and many others...

The Beatles! While the Rolling Stones are a really good band, the Beatles' music has been recorded by many different artists, and appeals to many different types of people.

The Beatles. Not only did they and their music grow, but each of them went on to have successful recording careers as soloists, creating new material. The Stones are good, but I don't really like their newer stuff so much as I like the classics Stones tunes. I mean, let's compare "Your Love is Strong" to "Imagine" by John or "All Things Must Pass" by George and the Stones' song comes up short.
And for those who say that The Beatles' music was not edgy, the Beatles were usually the first to try different instruments or ways of making sounds. The Beatles added their own experimental innovations, including endless tape loops that combined multiple layers of sound, backward effects, and the introduction of instruments like the sitar, the mellotron and the synthesizer. I call that edgy.

I like The Rolling Stones way better. I like them because they have songs that are much more powerful and "rockin" than the beatles. To me, The Beatles represented a band that took the "safer" path than many of the other great bands of that time. The Rolling Stones are more edgy and they're still doin their thing. But no doubt these are two incredible bands and i have a lot of respect for both.

I would have to say the Beatles. Within their music, there is so much to listen to. They were not afraid to try new and different things and not to bash the Stones, (because they are also fabulous and cutting edge for that time) they are just a rock and roll band. The Beatles used orchestras (Eleanor Rigby) and had guest musicians that enhanced their music 10 fold.

The Beatles because they put themselves into writing the songs...all Mick Jagger does is wear tight pants.

The Beatles were innovators of popular music. Everyone else, including the Stones, benefitted from the Beatles imagination, creativity, and experimentation.

i'm a big fan of both, but it's difficult to compare them, because their careers are so different. for instance, if you listen to the rolling stones album by album, their music style was consistant rock and roll. but with the beatles, album by album their music evolved over time. there's drastic style differences between love me do and hey jude. but as far as each band's influence on the music industry goes, i think the beatles made the biggest impact.
