Is it a marketing ploy or is there some logic to 3-packs vs. 4 or 6-packs?

i think that the tennis balls that are sold in packs of three are done for the serving that a person does. A person can serve a let, then they would use the next ball for their first serve and then if they serve a fault they have the third ball for their second serve. Basically, one ball for each type of serve result that a person can get.

well in 4 or 6 packs in a match the extra balls might be rolling around and bothering the players but w/ the 3 pack the server has 2 balls to start with and only one is somewhere else hopefully not on the court. but you can buy balls in larger quantities. good luck.

Two balls are needed for ones service. The possibility of hitting the tape and getting a 'let' is there; in which a third ball is needed. The probablility of getting two lets is very low.. so what need is there for a fourth ball?
orrrr
since the longest a match will go is three sets, one new ball for each? -unless your an atp mens player, playing best of five.. where you'll have more then one can opened.

just a guessing tho

No, there is nothing logic.
It's just a marketing ploy to keep their price affordable and in the meantime have a larger profit.
However 3 balls it's really the minimum to play tennis without breaking our back to picking them up from the ground, mainly while we are learning to play and we always hit the net.

Why do we get hotdog buns in packs of 6 when a package of wieners are usually 10 or more?
