first off be careful, you could throw your body into unnecessary stress by quitting which is also bad for the baby. but there is one techinque that may help you. set a 2 min timer every time you want one. when the timer goes off if you still want one go ahead and smoke it.
The reason this is effective is because nicotine cravings generally last from 30-90 secs. That's when the craving is spurred on by stress rather than a physical craving. if you try to fight the craving when you have a true physical need for it you could throw yourself into a binge which is obviously not helpful physically or more so psychologically.

Wow. Some of these people are unbelievable. Not you, by the way, but some of these responses are downright CRUEL.
Okay, first, let me educate these numb skulls who say that you're going to have a deformed baby. Smoking does NOT, I repeat, DOES NOT cause deformities. That does not mean that it's okay to smoke when you're pregnant, but that shouldn't be your main concern. Smoking in pregnant women can lead to low birth weight, fetal injuries, and can increase your chances of complications during delivery. The baby also has a 50% higher likelihood of being born with a cleft palate, and a slight increased risk of SIDS.
Smoking is a hard habit to kick. I just quit last week, and I'm fifteen weeks pregnant. I don't plan on picking it back up again, though, because it IS so hard to quit.
This is what I did. I started to cut back by smoking half cigarettes instead of full cigarettes. I still went out to smoke at the regular times. I did that for about a week. After that, I started cutting out one cigarette break about every two or three days. Finally, I was down to just one cigarette, and at that point, I was like, "What the hell, I might as well quit."
You have to want to quit, hon. It's not easy, but it's better than taking the risks to your baby's life, although those risks are small.

I smoked for 14 years and quit cold turkey with only the thought that it would be better for the baby that hopefully sometime soon i would carry, would be healthy. It is all about will power! Every time you think about a ciggie you need to put that thought out of your mind. Far enough i was the biggest you know what for a few days but once you pass the 5th day it gets easier. Well it did for me. You can do it, you obviously already know that it is not just you that you will be doing it for so i wont preach!! Everytime you want a ciggie, do something. I havent touched a ciggie in 5 months and i smell great! You can do it!!

This answer is coming from a health background point of view. This is the best time to quit smoing because you have a really good reason to - you baby. Think of everytime you inhale the cigarette smoke what is happening - creating a smaller baby which means that it will be weaker health wise, miscarriage, early delivery or even still birth. Also you are increasing the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
These things are not to scare you, but for you to have some good reasonings/meaning as to why you should quit.
Don't forget to think about your health as well!

As a non smoker I find it so hard to understand people who do smoke as its clinically proven that smoking contributes to all sorts of health problems & diseases. What more motivation do you need. A good idea would be to visit a few poor souls in your local hospice, who at some time may have been in the same situation with no motivation to quit, but my God I bet they wish they could have found the motivation now! I know we are all guilty of bad habits & excesses of one kind or another & I'm no exception, but you will be doing yourself ( and others around you) one enormous favour by quitting. Dont decide to stop ' after this last packet or after the weekend or after your holidays or whenever you have to make the decision to do it NOW, that last packet might just be the catalyst to spell disaster. Good luck !

I smoked for years before I got pregnant. Maybe you could just stop buying them and take it a little at a time, every time you want to smoke realize that you are quitting because there is someone besides you that you are now responsible for, that child will need a healthy mommy too.

yea i have the same problem, im 11 weeks pregnant and i started out really good, i cut back to about 5-6 a day and now im back up to about 8-10 a day, Its hard work to quit smoking, and when its not making you sick and all its even worse. The best thing you can do is try talking to your dr. im sure theres something he can give you to help. People are going to be mean and tell you just to stop but i know how you feel! Its just not that easy!!!! Try calling the first district healthy unit they usually help with those things. Right now try your best to cut back! GOODLUCK to you and i hope all goes well....:)

Just stop. there is really no other way. Until you finally stop your body will keep going through withdrawl every time you don't have a cigarette. After you stop you have to deal with your mind telling you that you want to smoke. try keeping busy, chewing gum, eat celery or carrot sticks. Every time you want a cigarette remember why you stopped--your baby-- then just do not smoke. It is hard and you will be grumpy but in the end the only thing to do is stop through a conscious decision to simply not smoke. --don't give in to cravings.

You have to quit! There's no way around it. Smoking can cause your baby alot of health problems and you won't get that "big" baby that you want. Quitting smoking is going to be hard but you've got too. Do it for your unborn child.

at 19 weeks you're almost halfway through your pregnancy and you have probably already done some damage. You HAVE to quit now. Nothing is impossible if you tell yourself it's for your child. This won't be the last sacrifice you have to make for your baby. Do it now, before it is too late.
