I normally send or give them personally a thankyou card. If the favor was very special, I surprise them with a small gift. I always make sure I thank peoples kindness in some form of Thank you.

Depends on what it is, I always say Thank You. After I had my son, I sent my doctor a Thank You card with some pictures because he went beyond his duties as a doctor for me- I was in labor so long, and he was only supposed to be at the hospital until 5:30pm... but things with me went wrong, and he stayed until 8:03pm when I had my son c-section-even helping with the c-section and making sure I was okay. Anyways, it was very nice of him- I would have done the same if i were him, but that's me.... but, at my next check-up, he thanked me and said it meant a lot to get a card and pics from me because not too many people do that.
so yes, it depends on the situation, but I always try to be nice back.

Thank them sincerely. That is always important. If you want to do more for them than that, make them a batch of cookies or something. If it's a really large favor, offer to return it by using a skill you have to help them. I always try to remember to do favors for those I can help and simply expect others will do the same.

Depends on the favor. I mean I'm not sending out thank you notes because someone held the door for me when my hands were full!
I make sure they really hear my gratitude, look for ways to repay the kindness. Sometimes baking is involved. (which reminds me I owe someone some baked goods for a ride home)
Other times I look to, sorry to use the phrase, 'pay it forward' and extend myself for someone else who can benefit from the kindness.

Depending on the favor all of those are appropriate. I believe it is important to acknowledge all favors big or small. You never know when you will see a person for the last time.

Well, that depends on the favor. In most cases, a simple thank you should suffice, but if we are talking huge favors, then a thank you note would be good.

It depends on the favor, if it was big, then do little favors for them. But if it was a small favor, then a nice thaank-you card would be all that is nessesary

I give thank you cards, occasionally. But, usually, whenever that person needs a favor I'm willing to give in return. That way I won't have to keep track of who owes who. Also, in that way, giving and receiving is done freely.
