I, personally, would go with 9. Sounds like a lot....but I like a tree that is really lit up. Use about 1/3 of them on the branches in the center of the tree---all around the trunk. I think the biggest mistake people make when decorating a tree is not lighting the tree up from the center. When you do this---your tree will GLOW!!!

6 Foot Christmas Tree

I have a 6 foot tall fake Christmas tree that is about a foot wide at the top and a little over 3 foot wide at the bottom. I use (3) 100-light strands. With that, I drape it around the very top of the tree (where there really isn't much support because it's a cheaper tree). Then when I get to the actual branches, I weave the lights all the way inside to the trunk and back out. 3 strands is just right for this. Plus, the maximum SAFE number of strands to put together is 3 (according to the box's recommendation). Depending on how fat the tree is, you may need one more. Happy Holidays!

I would buy four sets of 100 and starting at the top begin to wrap them adding one more set on as it is needed until you reach the bottom, if you need more then buy more if you use 3 and that's enough take one back or use it else where!
