MPAA (or Motion Picture Association of America) uses ratings to let parents know whether or not a film is appropriate for their children.

G: Acceptible for all audiences. No sex or drugs, nothing violent, and no harsh words.

PG: Parental guidence suggested. May contain some adult themes, some brief adult language, very brief (non-sexual) nudity, and/or some violence.

PG-13: Parents strongly cautioned. May contain drug use, adult language, violence, adult themes, and/or non-sexual nudity.

R: Restricted. Nobody under 17 admitted without adult accompanyment. May contain strong language, violence, drug use, and/or sexual nudity.

NC-17: No children under 17 admitted. May contain graphic violence, explicit sex, explicit language, or other things that the board deems inappropriate for children of any age.
