Wow, I feel for you. I just would have said "thanks, I'm flattered. You know I don't swing that way, but I appreciate you being comfortable enough to tell me how you feel. That doesn't mean I still don't want to be friends, but please respect my decision when I say that we could never be romantically involved." Then top it off with a sweet innocent smile :-) That way she will know that you were just being honest and it was not an attempt to hurt her feelings.

This would be extremely awkward but at least your friend is being open with you so that you can discuss it. Tell her that she is a valued friend but that you do not share her sexual orientation and that your interest in her has never been and never will be more than friends. Tell her that you wish to remain friends, but if she were to press the issue it would ruin your friendship.

if my best friend of 11 years told me that, i would tell them that there's nothing wrong with being gay, but i'm not interested. be nice about it also

Yes that would be awkward, but be honest and tell your Friend how you fell about them. Just tell them its okay to be gay but your not instated in them and you two can still be friends

It would be totally awkward! But your reaction will determine the course of your friendship. Be honest, and if they are a true friend they will accept what ever you have to say...just be kind and dont say anything hurtful.

Wow that would be horrible! Tell them you are not gay and that you will still be friends w/ them anyways. I wouldn't befriend them because you have been friends so long.

It'd be WICKED awekward. But they are still your friend. Just talk to them. Let them know that you are not interested in them in that way, but you'll never stop being their friend.
