Is it cheaper to buy a Hybrid or semi luxury car in US and drive to Canada or should I purchase in Canada?

Thanks Team! Yes I am moving:) to Canada permently. As a new settler I do not have to pay duties and taxes (becuase I will be using it here as well as in BC). New Japanese cars have odometer readings in KM as well as in Miles. I have to add daytime running lights I guess. My main concern is the price. If prices are equal and we can negotiate the price (we love to do in US) in BC then I would consider buying in Canada. I appreciate your thoughts.

If you are not an American i would say shop around and buy in Canada, several reasons... 1) US vehicles have to be transferred over to Canadian plates and go through impounding for 72hrs, 2) It may cost less in US dollars but they will get you in TAXES and FEES 3)most US cars will have larger print on odometer in Miles rather than KM's which is what we use here. 4) only vehicles of a certain age or category will be allowed to enter. There are more things to it but in short it's a pain in the @$$ to deal with. Happy hunting!

Well, you should purchase in Canada because you have to drive a long way from U.S to Canada, and the price is almost the same in both countries.

I am an American living in Ontario, I did what you want to do with a car and let me tell you, it cost me an "xtra" thousand dollars. Do yourself a favor and buy a car in Canada.

if your going to stay in Canada we require that all American cars be "canadianized" like you will have to change your speedometer and crap it can be really expensive... you will also have to pay taxes to bring it over the border.. I recommend buying a car in Canada

Make sure you export it with U.S. Customs before you take it to Canada. $5,000 penalty.
