Hopefully they are inside right now, otherwise they won't be growing to well :-) J/K

Anyway.. basil will only grow new sprigs from seed so the more seeds you plant the more sprigs will grow. Now the mint should be spreading like crazy... i have 7 different kinds of mint and I always plant them in long box type planters because they grow along the surface. The more surface space they have the more they will grow... so maybe the surface space in your pot is to small? I also never plant mint in the ground because it will take over everything!

HTH :-)

mint is like a monster, i cant imagine why its not spreading to overflow your pot. basil is a little more finicky--needs more heat and sunlight to do well. possibly the clay pots are the culprit. switch to plastic clay-colored pots. they retain moisture better. make sure theyre getting enough sunlight. in the winter this becomes more difficult unless you have a south window or a bay window or a skylight.

Plant's growth is dependant on the length of daylight they receive. Shorter days now prompts them to slow growth rate. Collect seeds for planting in the spring.

good luck
