First of all I wouldn't recommend the Pentium 4 HT (unless you already have it). Better options are available like AMD's Athlon 64,
and AM2 X2 processors.

Even better is Intel's Core 2 Duo 6300 (the least expensive of the Core 2 Duo line) If any of those fit your budget, they are much better performers. In any case, the CPU is much less important to a good gaming experience than the GPU.

For your GPU, it's just a matter of how much your budget allows. I'd say the GeForce 7900GT or ATI Radeon X1800XT should be the minimum you consider.

If you don't mind spending a bit more, the Radeon X1900XTX and GeForce 7950GTX are incredible cards. Don't blow money on the new GeForce 8800 series, those will be overpriced for a few months, since they currently have no competition (they are the only DX10 cards on the market, but their existence makes the top-performing cards from just 6 months ago, much cheaper)

The only issue with you motherboard will be confirming the video interface. You want PCI-Express! If you're stuck with AGP, then your graphics card choices are much more limited.

That relies upon... i does no longer advise the Pentium 4, even even though it appears that evidently like this is the processor you go with to apply. you ought to use any motherboard as long because it quite is like minded with Pentium 4's, meaning Socket 478, and has a PCI-convey slot for pix taking part in cards. i might advise the Radeon 1650 professional in case you go with great value for money. From there, in basic terms the greater money you spend the greater appropriate the GPU's get. The Geforce 8800 GTX particularly is the superb of the line card which you might have the potential to have, yet i does no longer advise combining that with a P4. i might say the Radeon 1650 professional could wholesome you fantastic.

The best you can get, of course.
You can use any video card with any processor, as long as the motherboard supports both.
If you can get a PCI-E motherboard, good, you have a wide variety of video cards to choose from.
If only AGP motherboards are available for your processor, get an X800 or 7800 AGP card. Those are the most powerful ones available for AGP.
