I definitely think 18, to many predators lurking there. Also have you seen some of the profiles of kids 13 ish, I would have been to embarrassed at that age to post some of those pics and written statements for all to see.

By law, the age barrier is 13. However, there's no practical way to enforce any age limit. Anyone can mis-state their age or birthdate and there's no way to know if they're being truthful.

Parental monitoring and control is the only way to keep kids safe -- on the net or anywhere else.

No one under 12, ever. No one under 18 without strict parental supervision.

Myspace itself could be setup differently, a little bit like this site: different levels with controls over the number of posts/comments per day, time limits on connections, etc. Make it so little kiddies can't spend 10 hours a day logged in.

I don't see a strong enough reason for age limits, and I do see good reasons why using them would make it harder to protect kids. It's reasonable to allow kids to register honestly. If they're under 16, it's best to ban them from providing their contact information, and it's smart to keep people from being able to find their profiles without already knowing their username. You should be able to keep a blog, and keep up with your friends, without having to pretend to be an adult. Placing age limits encourages kids to pretend to be old enough, which puts them at risk. A real 18 year old looking for a new girlfriend shouldn't have to worry about accidentally finding a 14 year old with a faked profile. I'd love to see specific penalties in place for lying about age, like the profile being deleted altogether, and possibly that IP address being banned from having a new one.

I think for anyone under the age of 18 it should be closely monitored by their parents. I don't know that there should be any set cutoff age as far as to being to young.

I don't personally believe in limits based on age. I would personally favour evaulation of the user as a person. That way you wouldn't have to be bothered by people who post questions about social networking in computer networking sections. ;)

I say 13 - 22...before 13 is way to young, and after 22 is just embarassing.
