Yes
I'm white, my wife's black. I've seen much racism she's had to deal with.
We've both had to deal with bigots for 30 years. It was much worse 25 years ago, but has gotten almost unnoticeable now.
It's much better in the bigger cities, like Atlanta. We moved to Atlanta in 1980.

Well I guess that would depend. If you look at reported hate crimes by State, you would conclude not very, since most States in the top ten are not even in the South. But of course day to day racism, words, attitudes, would be different. I have lived in both the North and South due to moving for work, and I would say I don't really notice a huge difference in people's attitudes regarding race. There are racist and not racist people everywhere. I would probably agree that a lot of the older people in the South maybe hang on to some of it, but that's just based off of my limited experience. A lot of stereotypes about anything really come from people who have no first hand experience with it, or base something off of a limited experience.

I have experienced racism directed at me many times since moving to the South. It's like some black people think that it's payback time or something. I don't let it bother me anymore since it has happened enough for me to understand that it is not a majority view and has it's roots among uneducated losers. That goes for the racist whites as well.
I have also met a lot of very decent people here in the South of all races. Ignorance is not bliss. The solution is in how we deal with one another on an individual basis. If you just focus on the bruised part of the apple, you will miss the best part of it.

About 15 years ago in Tennessee, we stopped on a road trip to get a tire replaced. I went to the mall there and walked into a Spencer's Gifts. One guy behind the counter said to another "There's so many n*****s in this mall today"! Luckily I had the presence of mind to pull out a piece of paper from my purse and took down their names. The were fired in days according to the corporate offices.
Basically, coming from Cincinnati Ohio, and now living in Tampa Florida, I can say there is WAY more racism there than here. True Southerners don't tend to be too racist like that unless they are completely trash.or live really out of the way. It's the Appalachian element who tend to have more of that going on.

Can't say I experienced racism, because I am caucasian, but I did experience some pretty nasty overfried southern food and major indigestion from eating that crap. Regarding racism, it's alive and well in the bible thumper redneck south.

Actually, only once (I'm half Eastern Cherokee and half Irish to clarify things in this case.) I'm originally from Tennessee, and to be honest most people really just don't care what you are. There's a stereotype that Southern people are inherently racist, and it's just that---a stereotype. Living in Connecticut now, I find the same exact level of racism I found in Tennessee. In Connecticut, however, there's a larger dislike of indigenous people.

I am a white male over 30, and I experience racism every f*cking day. Either in person or when I turn on the TV. So don't be whining about racism. I think my dog has more rights than me. You don't have to live in the South for that, It's everywhere, more and more everyday.

We had riots at school when I lived in Florida. It was an attack on white people. I didn't go to school that day, but I doubt I would've had a problem because most of my friends weren't white. I just seemed to get along with other ethnicities better than the stuck up white kids I went to school with.
