Humans have always fought each other for space, jealousy, religion, power, survival, and just about any reason you can think of. If you read the Bible, the Middle East (called Persia then) was always in conflict. As long as their are Christians and Jews, the Middle East will not be satisfied. Ignorance has taught hate through out so many societies. As long as we have differences, there will be conflicts.

Our biggest threat is terrorism. It is difficult to fight an enemy you can't define or face head on. How do you fight someone that will die in order to kill you. It is only a matter of time before the war on terrorism escalates into more of our own society. It is scary to imagine what terrorist can do. To fight them, we need to be on the offensive. Hunt them down and remove them.

We face biocide - the anihilation of all life on Earth. Nuclear weapons, biological weapons, and chemical weapons make this Earth a dangerous place to be.

As to the Middle East, the conflict going on there has been going on for a long time and is complex. Americans should be forced to read some of the history of the area, like the fact that the CIA "installed" the Shah of Iran - most Americans do NOT know this. It is VERY complex, but there is hope, and as long as there is hope, peace can happen - even in the "M.E."

I'm sure people in the middle east wonder this as well. Look at countries like China, Qatar, the UAE, India. Even Iran.
All relatively peaceful places to live. What seperates them from warring nations nearby is simple.
They have economic growth. Meaning your average teenager there can look forward to a good job and a decent life. In countries without this simple economic progression, these same kids feel isolated and have very little to look forward to. Teenagers in these countries act out because, well, there really ain't **** else to do.
We have hate groups in America, but until you get into the inner-cities, those groups are too small and powerless to really do much harm. Inner cities have more poor areas and poor people. Kinda like the middle east. Violence abounds in these areas.

imminent threat if enough diplomacy breaks down. i believe "ignorance" is the word. most of the zealots that keep warring in the middle east learn what they "know" from the clerics and not from a written word. they believe what the man tells them to believe. it happens in most 3rd world countries, too.

To certain numbers of people, war means business. When it comes to business then nothing can stop them to say "Show must go on".
